We help civil society organisations and other human rights defenders to provide more effective assistance to the communities they serve.

Many Chinese NGOs are small and inexperienced. We provide tailormade assistance to develop skills in project design and management as well as budgeting and financial administration. We are supporting partners to adopt a human rights based approach to their work and to mainstream gender awareness across their activities.

Chinese education and training is largely lecture-based. We have been working with lawyers and other human rights activists to design and deliver relevant and engaging human rights training. Participants value participatory workshops that allow in-depth discussion of issues and relate international human rights law to domestic law.

Increased repression and the risk of detention take a toll on the mental health of human rights defenders. We provide opportunities for respite and psychological counselling.
